Volkerode is a Catholic church village, 14 km south of Heilbad Heiligenstadt and is located in Eichsfeld on the border between Hesse and Thuringia at the foot of the Gobert. The Gobert is a very beautiful hiking area with the highest elevation in the Eichsfeld (537 m). The church is dedicated to St. Michael.
