After the Second World War, the Waldfriedhof was opened as a central cemetery in 1951. The cemetery hall was then built. In 1960, the cemetery grounds were extended and a flower hall and side wings were built.

Until the cemetery was opened, a church cemetery was used in both Zella and Mehlis.
