The tree-lined, extensive high plateau of the Knüllfeld above Steinbach-Hallenberg is a wonderful spot. The air is clear and the views of the Thuringian Forest mountains are far-reaching. Numerous hiking trails and cross-country ski trails cross or start here. There is also a traditional restaurant here.

The Waldgasthof Knüllfeld has a small snack menu for all those passing by at weekends, e.g. bockwurst with bread rolls or hearty soups and ragouts. Those who prefer something sweet can look forward to homemade pastries, such as cheesecake with raisins and caramel sauce, strawberry cake or cherry cake with butter crumble. In the in-house beer garden, Kreuzberger Dunkel is a refreshing drink.
