Wallenburg Tower
Wallenburg Tower
The lookout tower on the outskirts of Trusetal is a monument to Romanesque architecture from the 13th century. Located in the middle of the forest, the castle served to protect the mines, smelting furnaces and hammer mills as well as the roads in past centuries.
The castle complex was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. Only the keep was preserved undamaged and its interior was reconstructed in the mid-1960s. Since then, the tower has served as a platform with a unique view of the Werra Valley and the Rhön.
