Pilgrimage church Kreuzberg Bischofsheim i.d.Rhön
The Kreuzberg has been the destination of numerous pilgrims for centuries. In the late 7th century, St. Kilian is said to have erected a cross on its summit. The Pilgrimage church on the Kreuzberg was built together with the Franciscan monastery between 1681 and 1692 and is well worth a visit. The monastery brewery, which brews the famous Kreuzberg beer, was added in 1731.
The Brother Franz House in the immediate vicinity with the permanent exhibition on St. Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan Order, the crucifixion group at the end of the Way of the Cross on the summit with the fantastic viewtwo starting places for Paragliders, the Climbing forest at the Neustädter Haus, the numerous Hiking trails, Mountain bike routes including flow trail and Winter sports facilities (winter hiking, tobogganing, skiing, cross-country skiing) make the Kreuzberg a popular excursion destination all year round.
Refreshments are available at the Klosterschänke and the mountain inn "Zum Elisäus" as well as a little further away at the Berggasthof Roth, the Gemündener Hütte and the Neustädter Haus (for opening times, see "Food and drink").
