Charming is the historic small town of Wasungen on the Werra River. Half-timbered buildings from the 16th-20th centuries built in the "Franconian-Hennebergian" style characterize the face of the old town, which has been preserved in its original topography. Particularly worth seeing are: Town Hall, former ladies' monastery, aristocratic courts and town houses. Wasungen is known as a stronghold of the carnival.
