The cradle of the Vogtland with an eventful history

The 800-year-old town of Weida is located on the "Reußische Fürstenstraße". For 800 years, the Osterburg has towered over the town as a prominent landmark. Built in the 12th century as a military fortification under Vogt Heinrich I. from 1163 to 1193, the castle was called "DAS FESTE HAUS ZU WEIDA". Since the first bailiffs - appointed by Emperor Barbarossa to administer his forest territories - had their seat here, the town is nicknamed "Cradle of the Vogtland". To this day, the small town has preserved its medieval flair. The old town is rich in listed buildings and in the surrounding area there are numerous idyllic hiking and biking trails, a natural camping site at the Aumatalsperre and a wonderful outdoor pool. A visit is worthwhile!
