In the tradition of historic Saale viticulture, the Chasselas and Portugieser grape varieties ripen on centuries-old vineyard terraces at the foot of the Leuchtenburg. The wind-protected south-facing location on heat-retaining shell limestone subsoil guarantees outstanding quality. The vines from one of the highest vineyards in Germany are cultivated by hand by the Förderkreis Leuchtenburg e. V.. Only organic grapes are produced without the use of herbicides or chemical pesticides. The grapes are processed and the wine is vinified by Winzerhof André Gussek in Naumburg (Saale).

Wine was grown in and around Leuchtenburg Castle until the 16th century. The vineyard with its educational wine trail was created as a living museum at the foot of the castle.
