In the Wenkheimer Mark, which had been settled for thousands of years, members of the landowning upper class had a clearing island created in the 8th/9th century, which was first mentioned in a document in 1057 under the name "Wernburgohusun". As with Seubrigshausen, which was probably founded at the same time, the name of the village could be derived from the first name of a female member of the founding family, in the case of Wermerichshausen from a lady with the name Werinburg. It is possible that Wermerichshausen initially belonged to the lordship of Wildberg, and ecclesiastically probably to the original parish of Münnerstadt. When the Wildberg family died out, the village passed to the Henneberg family, who sold it to Würzburg Abbey in 1354. The Knights of St. John of Schleusingen also have property and rights in the village.
Around 1180 - probably from Bildhausen - the mother parish of Wermerichshausen was founded, to which several villages in the surrounding area were assigned as branches. This foundation may have been influenced by the ministerial family of the Lords of Wernburghausen/Wermerichshausen, which is first mentioned in 1182 and appears in fiefs until the 15th century. A parish priest is mentioned for the first time in 1261. In 1317/1318, the parish is exchanged to the St. Peter and Alexander Abbey in Aschaffenburg, and in 1503 it is again exchanged to the Prince-Abbey of Fulda. The Reformation and Peasants' War bring unrest and hardship, as does the Counter-Reformation. In 1613, the parish of Wermerichshausen is transferred to Würzburg Abbey.
The first little church from the 10th/11th century is frequently remodeled. Structural damage and the consequences of lightning strikes repeatedly force the church to be rebuilt and extended. The old rectory is small and dilapidated. It is replaced by a new building by 1602 and extended from 1741 onwards as the number of chaplains increases. Together with the old school, the church and rectory form a unique ensemble that has a decisive influence on the appearance of the village.
The sandstone from Wermerichshausen is a sought-after building material for churches, chapels and official buildings. Talented stonemasons used it to produce magnificent figures, crosses and wayside shrines, which are still among the most valuable jewels of our homeland today. Everything changed with the secularization in 1803. Wermerichshausen becomes a Bavarian village in the district court of Münnerstadt, from 1862 in the district office of Bad Kissingen. Under difficult conditions, the water supply is established and roads are built to the neighboring villages. On January 1, 1972, the formerly important village is incorporated into Münnerstadt with the consent of the citizens and the local council. Building areas are designated, inner village roads and municipal roads are built, the sewage system is expanded and the village is connected to the Münnerstadt water supply. The church and wayside shrines are restored, fountains are installed and the school is converted into a community center. The rifle clubhouse is built, a sports field is constructed and a football pitch and playground are created. The citizens beautify their village with green spaces and advocate measures for village development. A circular path leads to the beautiful wayside shrines. Today, Wermerichshausen is a lively, tradition-conscious village community in a modern town.
