The western restaurant „Lasso“ is located in the heart of the Thuringian Forest, in the small village of Holzhausen. The village is surrounded by picturesque countryside and is framed by the great diversity of nature and the Veste Wachsenburg. The Veste Wachsenburg is a medieval hilltop castle belonging to the Drei Gleichen. Various hiking trails wind their way around the Veste Wachsenburg. The most popular hiking trail is the „Gustav-Freytag-Wanderweg“, which leads from the ruins of Gleichen Castle via the ruins of Mühlburg Castle to Veste Wachsenburg Castle and offers an incredible panoramic view. The 3 castles have the name “Drei Gleichen„, which originated from a medieval legend that says that all 3 castles were set on fire by a thunderstorm and therefore all looked the same.

The restaurant has been in operation since 1880 and has been carefully run as a family business for many years. After renovation, it was reopened in 2000 as the Lasso Western Restaurant. It is a popular destination for horse riders, cyclists, hikers, families and business people.

The restaurant also offers some highlights from the local cuisine and vegetarian alternatives. It also offers various exotic delights, such as ostrich, kangaroo and crocodile: Ostrich, kangaroo and crocodile. Short-term specials include South African springbok, water buffalo and zebra.
