Cattle, horses, sheep and goats keep the landscape open here by trampling and grazing, thereby preserving the habitat of rare species of open land. For example, the golden fritillary butterfly, yellow-bellied toad, northern crested newt, corn bunting, skylark, barred warbler and red-backed shrike find a home here.
