The Fröbel town of Oberweißbach is nestled in a charming low mountain range landscape (570-700 m above sea level). The Oberweißbach mountain railroad is famous for its unique cable construction. The cable car overcomes a difference in altitude of around 320 m in around 18 minutes.

Also worth seeing are the Fröbel Tower and the birthplace of the great educator and founder of kindergartens, Friedrich Fröbel. It is one of the most rewarding excursion destinations in the "Thuringian herb garden".
