Whether sledging or cross-country skiing: Ruhla is a true sledging and cross-country skiing paradise with a sledging meadow at the Schützenhaus, the cross-country skiing area at the "Storchswiese" with various circular trails for all cross-country skiing techniques, a challenging trail garden with a 1.5 km night trail, the Rennsteig ski trail between Ascherbrück and Glasbachwiese and other ski trails.

Incidentally, the "Alte Ruhl'" ski jump is also the number one attraction on many a day. The "world champions of tomorrow" in cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined are trained in Ruhla. The 2001 combined world champion Marko Baacke took his first steps on skis here - in his home town. Ron Spanuth from the Thal district did too. In addition to two junior world championship titles, he won bronze with the DSV cross-country relay team at the world championships in Lahti. In the winter of 2006, Juliane Seyfarth from Ruhla became the first junior world champion in women's ski jumping. The TSG Ruhla winter sports club 07 is the first port of call when it comes to skiing in the region.
