Experience the largest living European land mammal. The first Thuringian bison enclosure is located at the foot of Ranis Castle. This impressive animal species was saved from extinction at the last moment and is the largest living European land mammal.
The open-air enclosure is embedded in an extremely varied and attractive valley landscape between Ranis Castle and Brandenstein Castle. A signposted public path leads directly along the enclosure areas.
Whether on foot or by bike, you can marvel at the impressive animals almost up close. Benches and seating areas invite you to linger and you can learn interesting facts about the animals from the information panels at the enclosure.
