Wundersleben
Wundersleben
The village was particularly important in the late Middle Ages as a river crossing with a bridge over the Unstrut. The importance of this eye of a needle on the then north-south connection is shown by the fact alone that the cities of Erfurt and later the city of Weissensee had to take care of this bridge, which had to be renewed each time after the recurring floods. The large-scale Unstrut regulation work in the 1950s and 1960s then brought an end to the flood dangers for Wundersleben as well, but also meant that the scenically beautiful meanders of the Unstrut between Straußfurt and the community had to give way to a new artificial river course.
In 2015/2016, the Unstrut bridge, which is over 100 years old, was renewed. The bridge spans a magnificent stretch of the Unstrut and brings new guests to the town thanks to its proximity to the Unstrut cycle path. Around 40 tons of steel and 250 cubic meters of concrete were used for the bridge. It is 30 meters long and 4 meters wide. In the course of the construction work, the boat landing and a seating area for water hikers/cyclists were also renewed.
