Zeigerheim
Zeigerheim
Zeigerheim is a district of Bad Blankenburg (incorporated in 1992). Zeigerheim is located 297 meters high and only three and a half kilometers southwest of Rudolstadt. It was first mentioned in 1363 and its roundish shape indicates a Slavic origin. Today's appearance is characterized by half-timbered buildings. The attraction is probably the oldest rural church in the overlordship of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, which was completed in 1396. In it there is a Gothic carved altar with a St. Urban, the patron saint of viticulture. It goes back to Zeigerheim's tradition as an old wine-growing village, even today there is a vineyard here, which invites to taste. The surrounding area is very attractive and developed by hiking trails, some of which lead over the 425 meter high Liske, where you are rewarded with a magnificent view from the high mountain-like ridge path of the Kesselberge. From here you can reach popular hiking destinations, such as the Greifenstein castle ruins, the Fröbelblick or the Baropturm. The village life is mainly supported by the fire department, the shooting guild and the table tennis club. The annual highlight is the plum festival of the local history society in September.
