Zeilfeld
Zeilfeld
A church, which stands in the middle of the village, was already mentioned in the Middle Ages and belonged to the Römhild hospital at the time. The townscape is still largely characterized by Franconian half-timbered buildings. The Gleichberge mountains are located in the immediate vicinity of the small clustered village: two wooded basalt peaks, the "small" one 642 meters high and the "large" one not much higher at 679 meters. They are the landmarks of this landscape. The three basalt ramparts, which also earned the small Gleichberg the name Steinsburg, are the opposing remains of a fortification dating back to Celtic times.
