Zeitz is a medium-sized town in the south of Saxony-Anhalt in the eastern part of the Burgenland district. From 1652 to 1718, Zeitz was the residence of the Duchy of Saxony-Zeitz. Duke Moritz von Sachsen-Zeitz used Moritzburg Castle as his residence. From the 19th century onwards, Zeitz developed into an industrial town and an important railroad junction. Many valuable old buildings and cultural monuments have been preserved, particularly from these two eras, which characterize the townscape.
