The campsite is located at the entrance to the Uhlstädt sports and leisure center, directly on the Saale river. It offers pitches for tents, motorhomes and caravans. The boat landing stage for water hikers and the Saale cycle path are directly adjacent.
The grounds of the Uhlstädt sports and leisure center offer free parking, a barbecue area by the Saale weir and a football pitch and playground. Shopping facilities are available in the nearby supermarket. Uhlstädt also has a pharmacy, doctor and savings bank branch. A restaurant (not open every day) is approx. 800 m away. The regional train stop (Uhlstädt) is directly adjacent to the site, with an hourly connection to Rudolstadt or Jena.
The Uhlstädter Heide is within walking distance. Numerous hiking trails in the 1,082-hectare nature reserve, with beautiful viewpoints, benches and shelters, invite you to hike and linger. The idyllic Töpfersdorf church ruins are an insider tip. On hot days, you can find refreshment in the forest pool in Rückersdorf, approx. 1 km away. Another beautiful hiking area is the Hexengrund, which extends as far as Großkochberg. The Kochberg moated castle can be reached via the well-developed hiking trails. Particularly worth seeing along the picturesque valley are: the old oath and court site with Thingstein and court lime tree in Heilingen, the Obermühle mill in Dorndorf, the Schauenforst castle ruins near Rödelwitz, the Spaal with Spaalhaus near Schmieden and the Luisenturm tower near Kleinkochberg. Many rare orchids can be found along the shell limestone slopes in spring.
