Island cave
Island cave
The 160 m long, legendary karst cave is left in its natural state. The Zinsel Cave is an active water cave in the Lower Muschelkalk rocks and is considered to be the longest known and most easily accessible cave on the "Schalkau Muschelkalk Plateau". In winter, the cave is a bat roost. The dormice use it as a shelter in summer and also as winter quarters. You walk along the natural river bed, pass a narrow passage and overcome a ledge of approx. 1.20 m in height. The necessary equipment such as helmet, jacket, wellington boots and lamp is provided. The Zinsel Cave Festival takes place in July.
Note: The nature park and cave guide Ralf Kirchner offers exciting tours around the cave. A visit is possible by appointment and arrangement with Mr. Kirchner (0173/6767696) possible. Desired group size: min. 2 to max. 12 people (exceptions possible)
