Scharfenstein Castle with its whisky world is a popular excursion destination in Eichsfeld. It rises around two kilometers from Beuren on a mountain spur above the Leine valley. The castle was first mentioned in 1209 and has been extensively renovated in recent years. Today, Scharfenstein Castle is also home to an exclusive boutique hotel with a gourmet restaurant.
