Hornsömmern
Hornsömmern
Hornsömmern is mentioned in a document from the Hersfeld monastery at the beginning of the 9th century. The municipality of Hornsömmern borders the Kyffhäuserkreis district to the north.
The Roman Catholic church "St. Maria" from the 11th century, which was partly built in a Romanesque architectural style, is a listed building. The barrel-vaulted hall has a three-sided gallery and a sacrament niche in the choir. Following extensive renovation work, services have been held in the church again since 2016.
A beautiful path around the village, the wooded area on the "Großes Horn" hill and the orchard meadow, which stretches for several kilometers towards Kutzleben, are ideal for hiking. The village has a small bowling alley, which is often used by the bowling club. Next door, the village pub invites you to enjoy a refreshment after bowling. The newly designed village green with its pond as well as the well-kept houses and green spaces characterize the townscape. The village green forms the center of community life.
