Beekeeping Key

August Ludwig, the Thuringian father of beekeeping, once said: "If you want to see God's miracles, you have to go to the bees". Karl Key, the fourth generation of the family to produce the sweet spread, probably also has this motivation. And not only that - the beekeeper also sells candles made from beeswax, honey sweets, cosmetics with propolis, a type of bee glue, royal jelly, the wax secreted from the wax glands, and the honey wine mead.

The diversity of the honey is just as great as the nature surrounding Blankenhain. Blossoms of apples and lime trees, rapeseed fields and hearty forest meadows from the Thuringian Forest give the honey a unique color spectrum and a wide variety of flavors. For this selection, Karl Key sends 24 bee colonies on collecting trips. This means that only his own honey varieties are sold.

As a visitor, you also get a far-reaching insight into the craft of beekeeping, which is slowly losing its grandfather image, but is viewed by most visitors with a certain respect for the stinging creatures. Here you can accompany the beekeeper on a tour of the apiary, honey extraction and processing and, of course, taste lots of honey.
