St. Jacob's Church
St. Jacob's Church
According to archaeological findings, the history of St. Jacob's Church, which was first mentioned in 1296, dates back to the late 11th century. Extensions from the beginning of the 12th century until 1735 gave rise to the present building with its striking double-tower façade and impressive choir. Original statues of Emperor Henry VII have been preserved on the north portal. Saved from complete decay at the last minute, the thoroughly renovated Jakobikirche has been home to the Mühlhausen municipal library since 2004.
