The small village of Katharinenberg is located on the B 249 federal highway on the Hesse-Thuringia border.

The ruins of a monastery church from the early 16th century dominate the townscape. The extended choir of the complex houses the small church, which is used for services.

Every year at the end of July, the Katharinenberg village fair takes place on the occasion of the church consecration festival of St. Mary Magdalene. The funfair association organizes a weekend of fun and dancing for young and old. Guests from near and far gather in the marquee to enjoy the exuberant atmosphere.

At the heart of community life is the village community center, which has received considerable financial and material support from residents and sponsors as well as work contributions. The children's playground is a jewel of the village. Its design was made possible by a parents' initiative, which organized the necessary funds from sponsors.
