Climbing area Lauchagrund

It is fair to say that the Lauchagrund is one of the most popular climbing areas in Thuringia. The romantic rocky valley near the spa town of Bad Tabarz is home to a total of 26 crags and over 260 climbs, offering a rich field of activity for climbers of almost all abilities. The reddish rocks are made of rhyolite rock and offer a wide range of climbing (slabs, cracks, wall climbing and overhangs). The majority of routes are in the difficulty range 4 to 7 and most of the climbs are well secured. Only on the easier routes is it advisable to carry a few wedges and slings for additional protection. One of the highlights in the "Grund" is the 50-metre-high Aschenbergstein with its three-star routes Gipfelstürmerweg 4+, Junggesellenweg 5+ and the exposed Falkenweg 7. there are classic and very popular climbs on the Red Tower in the best rock with a summit experience. The valley side of the Findling is home to great classics such as the Friendship path 7, Birch path 8- and the impressive Valley path 8+. Above all, the enormous number of easy routes make the magical rock ensemble of the Lauchagrund a top-class destination for families and pleasure climbers.
