Lichtenburg Castle
Lichtenburg Castle
Picturesque, dreamy and like in a fairy tale with knights and damsels. This is how Lichtenburg Castle welcomes its guests. Just outside Ostheim town center, the castle ruins transport hikers, day trippers and walkers into a medieval atmosphere. The castle keep towers far above the treetops. It also offers a panoramic view of the entire Rhön as far as Thuringia and Hesse.

Castle ruins
The mighty square keep (14th century) is well preserved. The main gate in Renaissance style and the remains of the bower (1604), palace and chapel (12th/13th century) and parts of the curtain walls give an idea of the powerful impression the castle once made on friend and foe alike.
