St. Martin's Church Apolda
St. Martin's Church Apolda
St. Martin's Church is the oldest church in Apolda. It was first mentioned in documents as early as 1119, the same year as Apolda itself. Originally, the church was located outside the city walls near the confluence of the Herressener and Schötener brooks.
St. Martin's Church is a Protestant church, lost its importance with the consecration of the Luther Church in 1894. The last major reconstruction took place in 1925/26, when the nave was separated from the choir room.
Only the front part of the church, St. Martin's Chapel, is still used for services, which still take place here regularly. St. Martin's Chapel still belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish today.
