The Triptis district of Oberpöllnitz is located on the north-eastern outskirts of Triptis in the Orlasenke. Oberpöllnitz is conveniently located for transportation. The district lies to the east of the Bundesautobahn 9 with its Triptis junction. Since its reconstruction in 2006, the federal highway 281 runs northwest past the village center. It provides road users with access to the Bundesstraße 2. The Gera-Saalfeld railroad line runs southeast of the village center. The area around the village is surrounded by fertile soils that merge into weathered red sandstone soils.
