Promenade Nordhausen

The promenade stretches along the city wall in the heart of the city and in the immediate vicinity of the theater. The park is part of the historic city walk around the center of Nordhausen. In the 19th century, it was the first park to be laid out by city gardeners. They planted roses in raised beds over an area of 200 m², which visitors could "promenade" past. This is how the park got its name.
A few years ago, the city of Nordhausen created the Garden of Town Twinning in the front area. The gifts from the twin towns of Ostrów Wielkopolski, Charleville-Mézières, Bochum and Antwerp - larger-than-life sculptures and landmarks of the towns - have found their place here.
In the upper part of the promenade is the Neptune Fountain with a bronze sculpture from 1828, which was created by sculptor Ernst Rietschel (1804-1861). The Neptune Fountain once stood on the Kornmarkt and was moved to the Promenade in 1935. Directly next to the Neptune Fountain, surrounded by shrubs and benches, is a small playground. A climbing frame and a slide invite you to play here. On the meadow opposite, there are several small and creative play stations for little adventurers to try out. There is a direct connection to the Nordhausen streetcar not far from the partnership garden.
