Regional Museum & "Old Tower"
Regional Museum & "Old Tower"
The Municipal Regional Museum is located in the former "Fürstliche Oberförsterei", on the Schloßberg. This stately building was constructed in 1715. It has two storeys, a hipped slate roof with dormer windows and, after several renovations, still presents itself today with its traditional ochre paint.
The use of the house has varied. In the 18th century it was a forestry office, later a residential building for many years and since the mid-1980s it has served as a municipal regional museum. A particular highlight of any visit to the museum is the climb up to the "Old Tower". This has been converted into an observation tower and from its platform you have a wonderful panoramic view of Bad Lobenstein, neighboring villages and into the distance. The ascent is only possible through the museum grounds and the connecting steps through the former castle grounds. Halfway up is one of the four watchtowers of the 12th/13th century castle complex. Here you can learn about the construction of the castle complex, life and crafts in the Middle Ages using a model and display boards. A diorama "Lobenstein marketplace 1782" completes the exhibition.
