Renaissance castle Ponitz
Renaissance castle Ponitz
The medieval moated castle was replaced by a Renaissance building in 1574. The tail gables and a beautifully designed sitting niche portal are striking. Several coffered ceilings inside the castle are noteworthy.
The most important owner of Ponitz Castle was Wolfgang Conrad von Thumbshirn, who as a diplomat co-signed the peace treaty ending the Thirty Years' War on October 14, 1648.
Today, concerts and various events take place in this ballroom at regular intervals, enriching the cultural life of the community. Today, the castle is looked after by a support association. Concerts and exhibitions are often held in the castle. It is also possible to get married in the castle. Numerous sponsorship projects, voluntary work and the income from the castle antiquarian bookshop contribute to the preservation and gradual restoration of the castle.
