The Dominican nunnery of St. Mary Magdalene was first mentioned in 1293 as a foundation of the Weida bailiffs, but was probably founded in the mid-13th century.

The original Romanesque church building was made of quarry stone and was given Gothic lancet windows in 1411. After the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved and most of the building was demolished in 1560/1. From 1542 onwards, the Weida office used the empty church as a granary and stored the official grain here. The current name "Kornhaus" dates from this time.

In the middle of the 19th century, the building was converted into a residential and commercial building. For several years, it housed a wine shop and a pub.

After the First World War, the town of Weida acquired the building and set up social housing in it, some of which was used until 1980. In 1992, a large part of the roof truss collapsed during a storm. The free-standing gables of the listed granary were then secured.
