At the weir at the Spinnmühle, a wooden footbridge spanned the Ilm until 1833, when it was replaced by a chain bridge. The popular swing bridge is great fun for children, as the toddlers bounce noisily across it. But even when crossing the 14-metre-long bridge, you experience a slight swaying and lurching like on ships in rough seas. The load-bearing system is characterized by forged steel tension bands with nodes and a wooden walking surface. The bridge has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Classical Weimar" ensemble since 1998.
