Together with Floh, Seligenthal, Hohleborn, Kleinschmalkalden and Struth-Helmershof, Schnellbach forms the municipality of Floh-Seligenthal.
The district of Schnellbach probably got its name from the fast-flowing stream (Flohbach). The first settlers may have settled here on this fast-flowing stream under the protection of the Steinberg, where the forest and game promised them favorable living conditions. Schnellbach lies mainly in wooded, mountainous terrain that stretches all the way up to the Rennsteig. The village church, built in 1740, and the village fountain from 1859 are typical of the village. The image of the village center is rounded off by an old group of trees with a 100-year-old oak, the so-called "Luther Oak".

Schnellbach is an ideal starting point for hikes and walks in beautiful natural surroundings.
