Steinbach
Steinbach
Steinbach is a mountain village and extends at an altitude of 350 to 720 meters above sea level. Around 1,000 people live in the two narrow valley incisions (Y-shaped). The slopes are steep and the Kallenbach and Steinbach rivers flow together here to form the Grumbach. Steinbach was first mentioned in documents in 1330. For centuries, the village was dominated by the knife trade. It gained world-historical significance as the place where Martin Luther was "ambushed" on his return journey from the Diet of Worms to Wittenberg in 1521 and "abducted" to Wartburg Castle.
