Study Center of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library

The modern book cube is the heart of the building. Changing presentations can be seen around the book cube.

The study center was designed by architects Karl-Heinz Schmitz and Hilde Barz-Malfatti (Weimar) and opened in 2005. There are around 170,000 volumes in the open access area, numerous workstations and a reading room.

The first floor offers current daily newspapers and changing presentations. It can be visited free of charge and without a library card.

With the Study Center, the idea of 'one library' could be realized structurally: The modern study center and the historical building are connected underground by the underground stacks.

In the Study Center you can use or borrow items from the Duchess Anna Amalia Library.

Volumes of humanities and cultural studies literature and editions, fiction for loan, current journals, access to e-books and licensed databases and e-journals and the reference library on the history of Buchenwald Concentration Camp are largely barrier-free in the reading areas.

The majority of our holdings are located in the stacks and will be made available to you at the circulation desk or in the reading room after you place an order in the online catalog.
